The Playstation 2 is made by Sony and was one of the most popular gaming systems before all the major gaming companies unveiled their latest models such as the PS3 and Xbox 360. The Playstation 2 is still available and the good news is that games can now be bought for as little as $5 second hand.
The Playstation 2 is available in a couple of different sizes and will set you back somewhere around a hundred dollars for a new system or even less for a used system.
The first Playstation was a large thick rectangular box and the second was created to be very slim and light and Sony hit it right on the spot because they dramatically reduced its size from the original bulky console.
The Playstation 2 has fairly good graphics for an older system and has many popular games that set the standard for video games.
One of the most popular being the Grand Theft Auto games series that involves a character hijacking cars and breaking laws to be rewarded with new weapons and money. The game caused controversy around the world but is now considered quite tame compared with some of the newer R rated titles.
The PS2 still offers a great gaming experience for people who are not caught up in the hype surrounding new consoles. The game play on many PS2 games is involving and exciting, rather than it being all about the graphics as can so often happen on new systems; with game play taking a back seat.
Finally it was announced recently that there will be a new Playstation 2 coming out in Japan for the Christmas season. It will be cheaper and be even smaller and more convenient to travel with than the second version of the PS2 gaming system. There is no word yet if the third version of the PS2 will be released in the United States or the UK.
